Classical Cafe 2017

We are delighted to announce that Middlesbrough Town Hall's Sunday afternoon concert series will be continuing throughout the 2017 season. Our popular concerts present Classical music in relaxed, informal surroundings and feature local young classical musicians. Delicious homemade cakes and refreshments are available before each concert.

Due to the refurbishment of Middlesbrough Town Hall, this season's concerts will all be held at:

TP Coffee House, Royal Middlehaven House, Gosford Street, Middlesbrough, TS2 1BB.

Doors open at 2.15pm, With the Concert running from 3pm - 4pm.

Sunday 26th February

Kildale Quartet Alison Gill (Piano)

The Kildale Ensemble is formed by a group of friends to provide a unique musical experience to a variety of audiences. It is an amateur ensemble and takes its name from the North Yorkshire Moors village where rehearsals were first held.

The Quartet aims to create an informal atmosphere during performances, offering programmes containing a mixture of music from a variety of genres, so there is something for everyone. For this concert the quartet will team up with local pianist Alison Gill to perform Schubert’s famous ‘Trout’ Quintet.

Sunday 19th March

Brendan Howell (Violin) and Philip Christian (Piano)

Brendan is a student at The University of York, where he is studying the violin with William Leary. He recently completed the ABRSM Performance Diploma.

Philip is currently a physics student at Imperial College London. He achieved his DipABRSM piano diploma several years ago.

Sunday 16th April

Emily Douglas (French Horn)

Emily is 17 years old and from Middlesbrough. She started playing horn aged 9 with the Tees Valley Music Service then went on to attend the Weekend School at The Sage and for the last three years has attended Chetham's School of music where she has been taught by Lizzie Davis and Julian Plummer. In 2015 Emily passed a DipABRSM in French horn performance.

Cleveland Philharmonic Junior Choir

Cleveland Philharmonic Choir set up a Junior Choir in January 2016 as part of its 'Looking to the Future' programme. It is conducted by outstanding choral trainer John Forsyth MBE. John is a former Music Adviser for Cleveland. He founded Tees Valley Youth Choir and led it to the final of the BBC Choir of the Year. The choir gave its first public performance to great acclaim in July 2016, singing pieces by Richard Rodney Bennett and Andrew Carter, and were invited to sing with other young choirs from the north-east at the National Festival of Music for Youth in Birmingham.
