In celebration of the Theatre’s 60th anniversary, we are delighted to welcome this distinguished orchestra exactly 100 years after the historic Russian Revolution of October 1917, heralding from the very city where the revolution took place.
Before and after the revolution, Russian musical culture produced some of our most beloved music and in our programme tonight, we feature Shostakovich’s great second cello concerto, commissioned by the iconic Russian cellist Rostropovich. In the second half, the Orchestra will be performing perhaps the greatest and most popular of all Russian symphonies, Tchaikovsky’s “Pathetique”. Mussorgsky’s Night on a Bare Mountain completes the concert – one which no music lover should miss.
